Step ladders, also known as a-frame ladders, are usually short and designed for low-lying to medium areas in the household where a step stool will not do the job. They can help out in basic tasks, but they can also pose a danger if not properly used.

While in earlier years most were made of wood, today they are made out of either steel or high grade plastic. If it is made out of wood, before you use it you should visually inspect it. Wood ladders are prone to decay and rot and can easily break if in disrepair. Check for warping, especially around the feet of the ladder. This can make the ladder wobble and become very unsteady. If that is the case, toss the ladder and buy another made out of a higher quality material.

Before going up this type of ladder, make sure that it is in the fully locked position. Don’t just trust the sound of a snap to guide you; visually inspect it. While a second person is not usually needed to use step ladders, it still is a good idea for somebody to know that you are working up top. This is especially true around doorways and other high traffic areas where people go in and out. Make sure the surface is on is even and slip free; move carpets out of the way that could snag or bundle up. And do not let anybody (especially children) go underneath the ladder while working. It’s more than bad luck; it’s bad safety.

Woods are known to be an ideal material that is used for furniture; it is indeed due to its durability and look. It is a sought after by most people who wanted to have a comfy look in their sofa. Likewise, these wood chairs are also the common used in offices for a comfortable sitting place to work and relax.

However, one disadvantage of this wood furniture is that it is expensive, but it is not necessary to buy another brand new set in order to achieve a comfy place. If you have some old wood chair back in your home you can just repair it, and repaint it to give it a new look. With this, you can save money plus it is a great opportunity to improve your skills.

It is rather easy to have those old wood chairs fixed up than to spend a great deal of money. Though, it needs time to fix the chair, it is still worth the effort. And for fixing the chair, it is better to find an ideal place for it, make it sure that the place has enough light so that the scratches can be easily found for fixing.

It was probably the Egyptians who first learned to appreciate wooden tables and, of all the materials available today for furniture (glass, plastics, metals etc) a wooden dining table is still the preference of most people. It is not recorded how the Egyptians treated and cared for their wood to preserve its quality but they undoubtedly will have had some secrets.

Fortunately nowadays we have the TV bombarding us with information about the multitude of products to care for, clean and restore the beauty of our wood, but there are also some basic common-sense habits we can easily acquire that will protect our furniture and keep it looking beautiful; so before we think about commercial products, let’s just consider some of these.

Always use place mats and coasters to prevent heat damage, spillage and staining from food and drink. Use a table cloth or runner for greater protection. If spills do happen (and they will!) blot these up immediately, never allow liquid to soak into the wood. If you are using hot serving dishes, always place these on a trivet. Keep solvents away from wooden surfaces. Alcohol can damage as well, hence the need for coasters. Make sure your glasses have wide enough bases to allow them to sit solidly on the table. When moving furniture, lift it carefully, do not push or drag it.
